SNOW!

Exciting times in Round Rock! Yesterday we received between 2 and 3 inches of snow.

It started off as sleet, which woke me, pelting my bedroom window.

It turned to big fat flakes that looked like little snowballs falling from the sky. Then, it would stop, and snow a fine dry snow. It alternated all throughout the day. I would have loved to have spent the day curled up with a book and a mug of tea in front of the fire. But I spent much of the morning taking granddaughters to school, picking Charley up early with an upset tummy, and then picking up Libby when they made the decision to close the schools early because of the weather.
It hovered above freezing for much of the day, so as soon as it hit the pavement, it would melt. The girls were still able to make a very nice sized snowman. Yes, I let Charley go out to play in the snow even though she had a tummy ache. When you only get a snow once every few years, you must make allowances!

I'm excited for you and happy that the girls got to make a snowman! What fun they must have had. I'd say they were pretty industrious, too--they must have had to rake up much of the front yard to make this one:) This has been such a crazy winter with so many places getting snow that usually don't. I think another big storm is due to hit the East this weekend, but I sure hope it misses us--I'm ready to see some green grass!

Cool! Awesome! Love that snowman. Hey - we posted about the same thing. It really is amazing to think we both had the same weather - and we live a long long way from each other.

I see you still have your hose out. Do you put it away for the winter? Or just leave it out? I forgot to put mine away one year (last year). I didn't really matter, nothing happened to it. I thought it would have cracked.

Yes, I totally agree with you. Let Charley play outside - might just be the very cure for sore tummys. LOL!
Hugs - I sent you an email. Hope it gets through.

Dear Jenny, something went wrong!! I was so excited last week to see that you had started posting again and came over and made a comment but I wasn't happy with my wording so I scrapped it and started again only to be interrupted by the 'phone, I then came back again and commented (I thought) but it hasn't showed up!! I think I must have previewed it but omitted to hit 'publish'. I'm so cross with myself as I wanted to welcome you back to blogland :)

I was so very sorry to read of your losses, how very sad to lose a baby and at Christmas too! I do hope your nephew and his wife are finding some comfort from their loving family and friends and of course it was so sad to hear about your husband's Aunt also.

However I was so glad to read that your Mother is much better and that you enjoyed Christmas together. As for Loudon! How he has grown since we last saw him, he looks quite the little man and I love his froggy boots :)

Snow!! Oh goodness, we have had so much of it here this Winter, much too much, it was fun at first, especially seeing the different birds it brought into the garden but you can definitely have too much of a good thing and now we need blue skies and sunshine.

I'm so glad you are back Jenny...take care and enjoy your snow :)

Dear Rose,

Yes, it took most of the snow in the yard to make the snowman. All the children were out playing in the snow. Snowball fights, building snowmen, and looking for hills to sled kept them busy. I know so many parts of the country have been hit hard with winter weather. It's hard to get excited about more, but it won't be long until we all start to thaw out and get growing!

Wow Wendy! I wonder if it was the same storm system. That must have been some monster storm for us both to experience it, if so.

Yes, we don't put away our hoses because we have so little freezing weather. Usually the coldest it gets might be 28 F. and that would just be for hours--not days.

I will look in my inbox for your email--and try to resend mine again.

Hugs,
Jenny

Dear Shy Songbird,

I think I have had the same problem trying to leave comments on certain blogs too! So frustrating. But, thank you for the kind words.

Hasn't Loudon grown? We have just been amazed at how big he is getting. He is not a baby anymore. He is talking so much, and says some of the funniest things.

We did enjoy the snow while it lasted--it is gone now. I know so many have been battling snow all winter long, and it gets so tiresome. But, Spring is right around the corner. I am hopeful with our El Nino weather, we'll have a mild summer.

Take care,
Jenny

I think you may have had ice rain or even hail... sleet does not pelt, it's slushy. (LOL, cold climate people take types of precipitation too seriously!) Hope all your plants are OK!

Glad to see you got some snow. Sounds like the girls enjoyed it much!

Monica--Texans will take precipitation anyway we can get it! Finally, our lakes are nearly full. Yay!

Susie, I think everyone enjoyed our little taste of winter. Snow is such a rarity, we can enjoy the quiet beauty without all the hassles of our northern family and friends. My sister lives in Iowa, and absolutely cringes at the first frost, just knowing what is coming.

Gail, you are so right about finding solace in the garden. Even though it is still too early to do much, I have been walking around looking for buds, and leaves poking their heads above ground much like the groundhog earlier this month. I have found the Lady Banks coming to life, and the Bradford Pears are budding. Although my daffs aren't blooming, I have seen many around town that are..Spring is coming!

Hasn't this been the craziest winter in Texas? I hope spring and summer prove waaaaay more normal!

The snow is melting here and spring is arriving inch by inch. I hope your flower are blooming by now.

Marie, nothing really in bloom here yet. I can see daffs blooming around town, but I think my little mirco-climate is a little cooler than other areas. Lots of bud swelling on the Bradford Pears and Redbuds, and I am watching it all with much anticipation!

Wow, didn't know you got snow there this year; neat snowman!! I found your blog through "Perfectly Imperfect" and just had to send you a message. My niece and her family live in Round Rock!! And my sister and brother in law, and nephew live in Austin. I just got a message from my niece this morning that my great niece is going to be sending me a Flat Stanley letter to take on an adventure! Hope you're having a great weekend!

Cindy, I am so glad you stopped by my little blog to say "hi". It is a small world isn't it? Have you ever gotten to visit your family here in the Austin area? I enjoyed visiting your blog and getting to know you a little bit. Your Flat Stanley project sounds like fun--you will have to blog about it so the rest of us can read about his adventures.

They always say people who don't get much snow react much differently when they get it than those who do. I had to laugh over the things you said, like how the snow melted as soon as it hit the pavement.
