Bluebonnets

We went to Houston for the weekend. On the way, especially between Brenham and Hempstead, were fields of bluebonnets that were amazing! My pictures don't do justice to the vivid purple-blue hues. I tried to get pictures of fields that were more remote. Some of the fields that had the densest blooms, were filled with people taking pictures. What alarmed me, was the amount of people sitting in the fields with Longhorns grazing along side of them! I wonder what the Ranchers thought--I wonder what the Longhorns thought!

What beautiful photos of bluebonnet fields! I keep asking my mother to come down and visit to see the spring wildflowers before they are all spent.

BTW, the first song that was playing on your blog -- Simon and Garfunkel's "Feeling Groovey" -- went very well with your photos and story. It's a perfect road-trip song. :-)

How beautiful! I don't think I would be getting in a field with Longhorns tho!

I've always heard of Texas bluebonnets--what a beautiful display! (And I think your photos are wonderful.) My mother-in-law had a quilt made from the pattern "Bluebonnet Sue"; I wonder if it got its name from these flowers.

Thanks for the pictures! My sister is driving in from Houston this weekend, so I'll forward your post to her to show her a preview of coming attractions.

Gail, I knew what you meant--and I'm glad you like my song--it was always my "feel good" song.

Dawn, my mother came down last year in March to see the bluebonnets, and the weekend after she left is when they all popped up!!!

Susie, I know! I wanted to ask them if they noticed those--ahem--long horns! I think next time I will take pictures of people taking pictures of the bluebonnets. LOL!

Rose, I know what pattern you are talking about--I have a quilt that my great grandmother made, but we always called it Sunbonnet Sue. BTW, thanx for the compliment!

Pam, glad I timed my post before your sister's visit. Tell her the heaviest blooms are on the Southbound side. If she wants to get pictures, she can see which fields she wants to stop at, and then on the way back home, she will have an easy time just pulling off.

What a pretty flower and how lovely they look massed together in the fields like that. I have just looked them up and see they are your state flower which I didn't know and that also they are related to our Lupin which is a garden flower here.
The sea of blue reminds me of how our woods will look very soon when our Bluebells are in flower, which is always a wonderful sight to look forward to.
Thank you for sharing your Bluebonnets.

Wow, those look just wonderful. I especially like the red barn in the sea of bluebonnets. I hope to see them in person one day!

I have heard about Texas Bluebonnets but I have never seen them. Quite spectacular. Thanks for the pictures.

What beautiful fields. You know, I've never actually seen a bluebonnet;) Hopefully someday I'll be in Texas during the season.

I'm glad you liked my pictures, Shy Songbird. I have been collecting Bluebonnet seed, and am planning on sowing them this Fall, which is the best time for good germination. Maybe next year I will have pictures of them from my own garden!

Monica, I hope that you will make a trip down here sometime during Bluebonnet season--they really are breathtaking.

Marie, glad you liked them. They are a joy to see.

Marnie, you will just have to come down for the Bluebonnet season sometime! There is so much to see and do around Austin, it would be a fun trip.

Dear Wendy, I'm glad you enjoyed my Bluebonnet pics. Hope everything is going okay for you and Hubby.

Oh, wow, so many bluebonnets! Maybe next year we'll get some rain and have a show like that in Austin!

Morning Glories in Round Rock said...

Lori, thanks for stopping by! Wouldn't that be nice to have some real rain for a change? Let's put in our order now for next year!

Yep, that's what it looks like all around here, too. There's no place on earth prettier than Texas in April. You pix came out great!

A friend also drove down to Houston and told us how wonderful the bluebonnets were. How lucky you were to be driving down there at the right time. Unlike the Hill Country drive we did 2 weeks ago when we saw nothing. Maybe the recent rain will help a little and we will have lots of yellows in the coming weeks.

How beautiful! I've always wanted to see this. Thanks for sharing. (I doubt I would have been brave enough to chase a picture right into a longhorn's field -- yikes!)

Nola, it is a special time of year for us to enjoy the beautiful weather and flowers before it gets blistering hot. Enjoy it while we can!

Lancashire Rose, Timing is everything! The fields in between here and Houston were amazing--much better than anything I saw around Fredricksburg and Johnson City!!! It's sad, but I think the wild flowers along that stretch just aren't as thick and beautiful as they used to be.

Debbie in Ca, I am glad I posted about something you were wanting to see. Someday, maybe you can come on a vacation to see them in person--it is an amazing time of year right now--so beautiful.
