Daughter Number 2 and I spent a pleasant afternoon yesterday at Starbucks entertaining Baby Loudon and entertaining Starbucks with his squeals and screams (happy ones--he is just learning he has a voice--no volume control). I usually watch him at her house, but we had to evacuate while the realtor showed it.
I am not usually a Starbucks advocate. I don't care for big chain business, and believe in supporting small local businesses. But, I have wanted to visit this particular Starbucks since they opened a year ago because of all the eco-friendly building that went into it. It has two rainwater retention tanks out front and the roof is covered with flats of natural wildflower/grass mix. I saw very little blooming, but I bet it's pretty in the spring. We may not get to see what it looks like in the Fall, as I have read that there are two stores closing in Austin and 56 in Texas, as Starbucks is forced to downsize. This is a picture taken from the upstairs window of Starbucks overlooking the roof of the building.
I finally got a battery for my camera, so hopefully I will be able to start taking pictures again. DH and I are going to Mexico next week, so don't know if I will be able to post before we leave or not. I am wanting to take my camera with me so I can get pictures if I can just remember to do so!

Nice, interesting pic. I am not a starbucks fan either. I hate paying that much for coffee. I'm not cheap but thrifty.

I'm enjoying reading through your blog, which I found tonight via Nola at Alamo-North! I don't go to Starbucks often, but when I do, I love to get the green tea frappucinno with a little drizzle of raspberry syrup on top--it's awesome! (without the cream on top--too rich!)! We got rain here (Dallas/Ft. Worth metroplex) this week, too! My plants are loving it! Patti

Eve, I love Latte`s, and especially this time of year, iced. I am like you though--the thought of spending that much money sends my "Thrifty Genes" into spasms! My favorite coffee shop in Austin's is Ruta Maya. I buy their coffee and make it at home--almost as good. I am nervous about going to Mexico. How do you say, "Where is the bathroom"?
That Starbucks really is leading the way, with a rooftop garden. I think that's neat! I love Starbuck's lattes. Yeah, I know, they are overpriced, but I buy them once in a while for a treat. I like the atmosphere of a coffee place and a bookshop.
You are anticipating the fall weather and I am dreading it. Fall is such a melancholy time of year here in Canada, with flowers dying and leaves falling off the trees and cold, cold, cold. But, I guess I can't change it so...

Wendy, Weather is so relative, isn't it? We feel about our summers the way you probably feel about your winters! I dread the summer months, and by August, I am just trying to survive until October and the cooler weather comes.

Wow, I've never seen a rooftop like that before. I love Starbucks coffee, but I don't usually stop there except when I'm in "need" of a special treat. Actually, since McDonald's upgraded their coffee, I'm just as happy with that.
Glad you got some rain and some cooler temperatures. I love fall, as long as it doesn't slip into winter too quickly.

Thanks for the good thoughts on our trip. I am a little nervous with all the warnings we have had concerning this trip. We will be driving to a small town north of Mexico City. The trip will be about 13 hours, and it's not like we are going to be insulated in a tourist area like Cancun. Even so, I am excited about seeing the "real Mexico". I hope to have some good stories to blog about as soon as we get back!
I to like to support local businesses but I must say that is my sort of Starbucks....the roof is great, good for insects....
