World Of Treasures Party

Thank you Cielo for hosting this World Of Treasures Party, and allowing my to recollect all my treasures...going over them all one by one...do I want to show this one or that one? I am so blessed that Hubby and I share a hobby of treasure hunting in antique stores for those unusual things that catch our eye. When we get away for some time alone together it is usually to check out an antique shop or more likely--a Junque Shop! But I have to say, this pretty kitty is one of my most treasured collections...

This Puss'n'Boots cookie jar, creamer, and salt and pepper from Shawnee are treasured by me. Not that they are that valuable, but they are treasures of my heart. My grandmother had a cookie jar like this when I was growing up. There were always cookies in her cookie jar when I stayed with her. She was a beacon in my life, and the better parts of what I am are because of her love and caring. When she passed away my cousin got the cookie jar. Now that she is gone too, I have no idea who might have it. When I found one like it in an antique store, I had to have it! We were so broke, I had to put in lay-away! Several years after I bought the cookie jar, I found the creamer and later the salt and pepper. These were the only pieces made--no sugar bowl. I have many collections--and certainly pieces that are more valuable or beautiful, but these pieces make my house feel comfortable and homey to me--a little piece of my grandmother that I can touch and see and remember.

Hi Cathy, I'm so glad you stopped by and enjoyed my treasures. Yes, those silly kitties do make me smile too.

Mari, thanks for stopping by. It was fun finding the other pieces to the cookie jar. It is such a fun journey to find a piece that grabs you, and then find more pieces to go with it...and thus a collection starts! ;-)

Hi Wendy! This World of Treasures Party was loads of fun! There were several pigs made by different potters. If your pig was by Shawnee, I believe he was called Swanky Pig.

Hi Deb! I'm so glad you stopped by, and I'm glad you enjoyed my little treasures. It was so much fun deciding and writing about them. Have a wonderful Christmas!

I know just what you mean about this being a treasure. My grandmother had a cookie jar that was a sheep. I would give anything to have one like it. Somehow I let it get away and have always regretted it.

I am enjoying this party and all the treasures!

I have all sorts of memorabilia in my home too...a lot of it worth little in monetary terms, but full of sentimental value. We all like reminders of those we have loved and who loved us unconditionally :)

Happy Christmas to you, and your loved ones, and life's richest blessings for 2009 :)

Hello WG--thanks for stopping by. I do believe that is how collections get started. We all attach feelings and memories of loved ones to things around us. It can get quite out of hand! LOL! I could never live in a sterile environment that is called minimalistic. I try to create a happy balance, but must admit to leaning towards clutter if I am not careful!

Have a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year!

What a sweet treasure w/ a sweet meemorie...even if they aren't the exact ones your grandmother owned. I have a set of "my grandmother's china". It wasn't actually her's (somebody else inherited the china) but they still carry wonderful memories for me.

It is too bad you didn't get the original but I'm sure this one brings back the same wonderful memories. After all, it isn't the jar but the thoughts that are important.

I love the sweet kitty cookie jar, and the matching pieces you found to go with it! I love the sweet story about your grandmother, too. I have a baby granddaughter, and I hope she will remember me that fondly.

Morning Glories in Round Rock said...

Beckie, I bet if you started looking, you could find a cookie jar just like your Grandmother's. If you ever have a half hour or so, get on eBay and look for it. It is so nice to have little reminders like that around--even if they aren't the originals!

Morning Glories in Round Rock said...

Cami, isn't it wonderful that we can collect things that remind us of loved ones? It's not the actual pieces that mean so much, but the memories that they can jog.

Morning Glories in Round Rock said...

Marnie, you are exactly right. Having the original isn't nearly as important as I used to think. Somehow, it is even better that I was able to discover a treasure from my childhood.

Morning Glories in Round Rock said...

Thanks Monica--they all have purr-sonality! :-) Sorry--I just couldn't resist.

Morning Glories in Round Rock said...

Hi FancyHorse. Thanks for stopping by. Grandchildren are such a treasure themselves! I too, have always wanted to be as positive of a role model for my grandchildren as my grandmother was for me.

These are so cute, MG. Like you, I enjoy pieces that have sentimental value. I have collected several pieces of Blue Willow dishes, not because they're that valuable, but because they remind me of my grandmother and having tea at her house.

Morning Glories in Round Rock said...

Oh Rose! What a wonderful memory to have connected to Blue Willow. That's my pattern for everyday dishes--not that it holds any memories--I just like it! LOL!
