The Subtle Signs Of Autumn

We have cooler temperatures, and I am seeing the signs of Fall all around. The thing about Fall in Central Texas, the change of color is so slight, you may not notice. The change of seasons in the north fairly screams, "Look at me!" But here they whisper.

I disturbed this little guy hiding under one of the many limestone rocks in the backyard. After I finished weeding, I put the rock back for him even though I had planned to move it before I realized it was covering Mr Toad's home.

To many who don't look closely, everything turns brown in autumn. But if you really look you can see scarlet, burgundy, russet, and gold.

The Crab apple tree is truly amazing with it's color this year. All the Fall colors seems so much more vibrant this year than usual.

Sometimes I think if Fall came sooner to Round Rock, it would seem to last much longer. But I love the end of summer, when the temperature is soft and warm with endless blue skies. Either way, this is my favorite time of year when the unbearably hot weather is over, and I can truly enjoy being out in the garden. But, ack! Now I'm behind on my Christmas shopping!

Nice to read that you are enjoying cooler but still warm weather. We have snow up here in the frozen north. LOL!
Seems strange to be gardening and Christmas shopping. I'm sure you'll get things done in time. We always do, don't we?

I have never seen crabapples! The fall colors are wonderful. Winter is here for sure in north Texas tonight, I'm wondering if there will be any leaves left on the trees by morning, the wind is awful.

Wendy, That's what I keep telling myself--I'll get done everything that has to be done for Christmas! Our weather turned wintry last night--tomorrow will be back up in the 60's.

Nola--I've never actually had crabapples on my trees! LOL! I told them if they didn't produce this year, I was going to chop them down--still no fruit, but the best Fall color ever...I'll give them one more chance!

Hi Flowergardengirl! Thanks for stopping by--and the shopping wishes. I am planning a marathon shopping expedition Saturday to finish all my shopping so I can start on the wrapping and baking.

MG, It's so nice to see these beautiful fall colors, especially to remind me of the month past here in the Midwest. While I envy you your warmer temperatures and leaves on the trees in December, I don't envy the hot summers, anymore than you probably envy our cold winters:) Christmas shopping? I've barely started!

Deb, I am so glad I put the Crabapples in the back garden. Almost everything I have put in has been for Fall color. I am busy, busy trying to finish all my Christmas shopping. This is the last weekend I will have before company starts to filter in...if I don't get it this weekend...I guess I don't need it! LOL!

I don't know Marnie. It can't be rain because you got a lot this year, and we have had a drought. If you figure out why the Fall color has been exceptional--let me know!

Cheryl, our climate is wonderful--except for July, August, and September! If I could be gone those three months, I would be traveling to cooler climes!

Yes, it will all get done by Christmas, and what doesn't get done just won't matter after December 25th! I just always have a little panic attack when I see how much needs to be done!

Rose, I am so glad to hear someone else is behind on the shopping too! Hubby and I are planning a marathon shopping expedition tomorrow. If it doesn't get done by then--it just won't get done. My mother will be coming in next week, and the cooking/baking will commence!
