Cool Hints In Morning

I can feel a hint of coolness in the morning air that whispers a promise of autumn coming. We have had huge dark rain clouds sailing over head throughout the day, but so far none have stayed to give the garden some relief. I hope that someone is getting some of the rain those clouds are so selfishly withholding.

I don't know what kind of moth this is, but he flew out of one of the Boston Ferns I have flanking the front door. I call him camo-moth because he looks as if he is wearing camouflage. He is so interesting, I thought. I'm glad he let me take his picture.

The sunflowers are still blooming away, this one has flopped over onto the rosemary.
My chives are blooming. It smells of garlic when the wind blows in my direction.

The lantana are continuing blooming, and will until that first frost comes...as well as the Rudbeckia.
What's this? I can't believe it! I have a bloom on the Trumpet Vine! The first ever. I grew this from a seed pod the neighbor across the street gave me a couple of years ago.

I'm sorry, I guess I've been hogging all the rain up here. I'll send it down your way, there's probably going to be enough to share, come this weekend!
Love the photos of your flowers. I'll go check my chives tomorrow morning, I don't remember seeing any blooms, but who knows...

I just started a trumpet vine about two months ago from a piece of the vine, my sis gave me. Every single one of the pieces is growing. I need to trellis it. I wonder if I will have to wait two years for bloom or if that is just from seed.
I love sunflowers and lantana both. They are so faithful. That one is a pretty clear yellow. Mine lean more to a greenish yellow. My chives will never bloom. I am continuously cutting them back to eat them. : )

Your moth is very interesting-I'll bet someone will know it's name. Your flowers all look so fresh for not having any rain. Hope you get some. We finally got a good rain last week (2") and a couple of nice showers since. Our grass is even turning green again. Talking about cool...it's suppose to get down to 46 tonight. Good sleeping weather. I love it. Yeah, for the trumpet vine. I ordered one this year, but it didn't grow. Will have to try starting from seed like you.

Nola, one of my "chores" for this Fall when the weather cools down, is to dig up all my chives and put them in a barrel planter. They are taking over the herb bed. They are so well established that it may take a stick of dynamite to get them out! ;-) Looks like we may get some rain this weekend--of course that is what they said about Dolly and Gustav.

Eve, I am so excited about my Trumpet Vine. I have great plans to plant more all along the back fence row. I have so many chives, I could never eat them all and I do love the blossoms. They are so showy, even if everyone else complains about the "fragrance". I had some Society Garlic, which has purple blossoms, but I thing the common Chives has smothered them out.

Beckie, I do hope someone can I.D. Camo-moth for me. I thought he was beautiful.

I have some more seed pods if you would like one. I would be more than happy to send it to you.

Oh my! 46 degrees! I am dreaming of nice cool sleeping weather! Sometimes we are still running the A.C. Thanksgiving, but to have cool nights and mornings is all I ask for.

What an unusual moth. It does look like camo.

I love that photo on the right of the cats in the cradle.

I hope you get a good rain soon. Knock on wood, this year we have had fairly good rain. We must be getting yours.

How did you do the subscription? I'd like to try, but not sure where to start.

I keep telling everyone they can have some of our rain! Just send a bucket.

Bocephus sounds wonderful. He and George would get on a treat.

That moth looks sort of crispy - which probably isn't a good description for a moth!

Marnie, I don't think you are hogging our rain--we don't get alot until October--course some years are drier than others.

What subscription do you mean?

Thanks on the picture of Keifer and Tucker. My husband asks why we still have a cradle in our bedroom, and I always say, "For the cats of course"! It always makes me think of the song.

Liz, I am so glad you understand about Bocephus and his addiction to eating inedible objects. I was almost afraid to tell you what a bad pup he is, some might lecture on the dangers of letting your dog ingest such stuff--like I willingly let him! He has settled down since I gave him some of the baby's food. Only Bo could enjoy pureed peas, apples, and brown rice cereal--the baby sure didn't! LOL!

Maybe our moths have to be "crispy" to survive in this heat. I would send a bucket to collect some rain, but that would be like trying to quench the fires of hades with a snowball! ;-)

I love to see images of nature and of lovely gardens, like yours. Beautiful, also, is the sun, and the clouds, and the souls of people who know how to make others happy.... your post made my heart sing!

Cielo,
What a lovely thing to say! Thank you so much. I am so glad that I found your blog because it is truly beautiful. Whenever I visit, it is such a refreshing change of pace, I feel myself relaxing and my blood pressure dropping (which is a very good thing!).

I've never seen a moth like this! Your flowers are looking great despite your dry weather.

I'm sorry, but we have been getting the benefits of the hurricanes threatening the coastal areas. If I could send some your way, I would, although I hope you're not in the path of Ike? Sounds like parts of Texas are in for a real storm. Take care.

Rose, I wonder if anyone can I.D. my Camo-moth.

The word now is to prepare for Ike here in the Austin area. They are predicting high winds and torrential rain. They are telling us to gas up our cars and have enough food and water along with ice to last 3 days. We are having an influx of evacuees coming in now. The kids are going to be released early, much to their delight, because the schools will be used as shelters. Even so, I am hopeful we will be fine this far inland and I pray that those along the coast make it through the storm okay.
