The Little Engine That Could

I think I can, I think I can has become my mantra now that August is upon us. I think I can make it until October when we will get some relief from the heat and hopefully the drought. I like to think of this time of year as our deep winter (think cool thoughts) and I am planning and dreaming of what I am going to do when the weather cools down and I can once again get back into the garden. I have beds to enlarge and plants waiting on the porch to be planted when cool weather will keep them from going into shock and burn. But with the temperature being One Hundred and Three in the shade, dreaming is all I am going to be doing! I am lucky to get out for maybe half an hour before dark to water, but the cool of the morning is the best time to be out now. I find myself getting up earlier and earlier to get as much done as I can before it heats up. The only thing that appeals to me now, is living in a dark movie theater, but there are not that many good movies out this summer. Hmmmmm, an Alaskan cruise sounds delicious. Do they have any that last for two months?

An Alaskan cruise sounds wonderful. I'm hot just reading about your weather!

Just to make myself miserable, I looked up the weather for Juneau, Alaska--57 for the high!!! That is a winter day for us! LOL! Yes, the weather is pretty bad now, but come autumn, it is beautiful. And really, nine months out of the year it is very nice.

And I complain abput 80's and 90's!
Aren't we gald for air conditioning. I know your winters are great, so I guess it's to be expected tp have some rough weather for a while. Glad Dolly didn't do you any damage.

Hi Beckie! I feel bad complaining about it, but when I look at the extended weather it is 101 and 102 for the whole week, and that is what it has been for a couple of months! This will probably be one of the hottest summers on record for us--and I don't like hot weather! I am dreaming of October.

Next time, look up the temp in Phoenix! I am in north central Texas, we didn't even get a wave from Dolly. It's so dry here, I'm spittin' dust!
Are your beautiful morning glories still blooming in all this heat? What kind are the deep purple ones you have posted as your photo? I've got to get some that color next year. I just found your blog today, off of someone's favorites list, now I am adding you to mine. Your photos are beautiful!

Hi Nola! Bless you for your sweet comments. I looked at your blog and thought it was great. I especially liked the Sounding Off Blog, and I thought your pics were very good. Yes, I thought about Phoenix and other "hotspots" when I wrote my blog and I feel so whiney when I complain about the heat, but I don't like the heat or the drought. My morning glories (and everything else) are looking a little worse for wear, and my watering is just (barely) keeping them alive. I'm sure once we get some rain and a break in the heat, they will perk up. Nola, I don't remember what kind of morning glory seeds I got, I just remember it was a mix, and the heavenly blue ones are the fewest and hardest to grow. I bought one package of seeds 5 or 6 years ago, and they just keep reseeding themselves. I am going to add you to my blog roll too, so I look forward to getting to know you better.

I saw the pic of the book and almost went into tears. Funny how memory strikes. "I think I can, I think I can," was my mantra some 31 years ago when in 36 hours of labor with my son. Now I am laughing thinking of it. I read him the book often. And yes, it is HOT up here in OK, too. We tiptoe out at night.

Hi Curtissann, Memories are a funny thing aren't they? I remember reading that story in grade school. I know you are struggling with the heat in OK too. But, just a couple more months and we will have beautiful weather again.
